Brief Introduction of the Research Institute

The Haier Central Research Institute was established on December 26, 1993 and located in the Haier Industrial Zone, No. 1 Haier Road, Qingdao High-tech Industrial Park.

The Haier Central Research Institute is devoted to the independent research and development and the mission to provide the core technology support to the Hair Group for its creation of global famous brands.

Brief Introduction

The Haier Central Research Institute is a key technical institution of the Haier Group and is a comprehensive scientific research base of the Haier Group established through technical cooperation. It has cooperated at present with 28 companies of the United States, Japan, Germany and other countries and regions with the first-class technology level. It has 12,000 square meters of R & D buildings and 16,000 square meters of the test base equipped with software and hardware facilities with the international advanced level and has established 48 research and development entities both at home and abroad with the advantage of global resources of science and technology.

The Central Research Institute is focused at present on the independent research, development and innovation of technologies in the following fields: Refrigeration technology, network appliances technology, control technology, integrated circuits, environmental protection, energy-saving technologies, smart home integrated technology, new materials, industrial design, etc. Its main duty is tracking, analyzing, researching and developing technologies 5-10 years ahead of time and closely related with the development of the Haier Group and simultaneously promoting the industrialization of these technologies into the work so as to form new high-tech industries. The Central Research Institute has established under it the U-HOME research center, embedded software development center, innovative design center, process design center, model design center, the intellectual property right center, the user experience center, medium- and long-term technology research center and laboratory testing center.

• It had won the first place for six consecutive years from 2002 to 2007 evaluated by the National Technology Evaluation Center.
• It has filed for a total of 8795 patent applications including 2261 invention patents.
• It has presided over and participated in the preparation of 152 national standards and 9 international standards.
• It is the only enterprise at present from the developing countries into the future high-tech committee of such International Standard Organizations as IEC-PACT.

Our goal and mission is to build the world's advanced level of technical R & D institutions and superior resource integration center to integrate the use of the global superior resources so as to serve the global development of the Haier Group. It is the goal of the Haier Central Research Institute to support the Group's global brand strategy.

Main work tasks

The Haier Central Research Institute carries out the work mainly centering round the following five fields:

1. It has integrated global sci-tech resources and achieved the commercialization of advanced technology projects so as to provide incessant technology support to the Haier Group for its international development.
2. It has integrated the software resources, enhanced the added value of the Haier products and reduced their cost.
3. It has presided over the formulation of and implemented the technology standards, become the owner of technology standards of Haier and China and enhanced the technical strength of home appliances products of Haier and China.
4. It has provided R & D capability and technology support to the global manufacturing, purchasing and service departments of the Haier Group.
5. It has dynamically tracked, collected and analyzed the global economic, market and technology dynamics to provide decision-making bases for the Haier Group.

China’s only national key laboratory of digitalized home appliances

It is an inevitable trend for the home appliance industry to become digitalized. Digitalization of home appliances is the main battlefield of the future national economy and is the commanding heights of the core technology of the home appliances. In order to establish an international leading-edge technology research carrier and a personnel training base to ensure the leading international competitive power of our country in home appliances, the Haier Group and Qingdao Municipal Science and Technology Bureau jointly set up a "Key Laboratory of Network Appliance Technology of Qingdao Municipality" in April 2003. The main research directions: communication protocol, integrated smart home appliances and information technology platform of home appliances, the chip technology, digital technology, etc. The main research results are: home network standard of e excellent homes, series home network products, etc.

China’s only “digitalized home appliance key laboratory” was established at the end of 2006 with a fixed staff of 89 people. Sixty (60) of them have senior professional titles, 19 with intermediate titles and 10 with junior titles. The main research directions: SOC chip for home appliances and embedded software technology, communication technology and protocols of home appliances, intelligent control technology, home information network platform technology, etc. The Laboratory occupies an area of 3,500 square meters.

• It has filed for a total of 65 applications for national invention patents.
• It has presided over and participated in the formulation of a total of 76 national standards and 3 international standards.
• It has published a total of more than 60 research papers,32 of which SCI/EI made retrieval.
• It has won a total of one (1)national award on science and technology progress and 65 municipal and provincial awards on science and technology progress.
• Its has undertaken 11 projects of the National 863 Program.
• It has undertaken 2 projects of the National Science and Technology Support Program.
• It has undertaken one (1) project of the National Natural Science Foundation and become the first home appliance enterprise in China to undertake such a project.

Brief introduction of the Haier Central Laboratory

The Quality Inspection Center of the Haier Group was established by the Haier Group in 1998 with an investment of RMB150 million Yuan. It has a test center with an area of 12000 square meters under the direct jurisdiction of the Haier Group. It is the Group’s quality control, certification and inspection center. It is the largest comprehensive test base at present in China for home alliance industry.

The laboratory has 12 sub-labs for professional inspection of the whole machine and 18 sub-labs for the inspection of the components and parts. It can complete the test of more than 2000 items in accordance with over 500 standards, including the test of the whole machine and components and parts of all black, white and cream-colored home appliances.

The laboratory has more than 1,000 sets of various test equipment. It is equipped with the most advanced product test system with the first-class equipment in the world. Its large-scale precision laboratory has over 40 sets of test equipment, such as an electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) laboratory, artificial climate chamber, acoustic laboratory, environmental laboratory, the global climate chamber, gas chromatograph-mass spectrometer (GC-MS), atomic absorption spectrometer, vibration test stand, high and low temperature impact equipment, etc.

The central laboratory is recognized and accepted by the State. It has maintained close cooperation for a long time with many such famous certification and test agencies as VDE, UL, ETL, TUV, Rhine, LCIE, JET, CSA, LGA, KTL, CQC, etc. and obtained the data recognition by TMP, WMT, CTDP, TDAP, etc. at different levels. It mainly undertakes the domestic and foreign certification of the products of the Haier Group and the verification test of the Group’s products. It has obtained the approval of European Union EN45001. As a result, our products need not go abroad for certification test by the above-mentioned agencies but go through the on-the-spot test at his central laboratory.
