Haier CEO Zhang Ruimin ranked by the Financial TimesThe World's Most Respected Business LeadersZhang Ruimin, the only Chinese entrepreneur in the row, ranked 26th and Bill Gates first Not long ago, the Financial Times conducted the 2005 survey of the World's Most Respected 50 Business Leaders. The result showed that Zhang Ruimin was ranked 26th and Bill Gates toped the list. Zhang Ruimin was the only Chinese entrepreneur on the list, indicating Haier's successful performance in globalization strategy. The annual survey has been conducted by FT and PricewaterhouseCoopers for 8 years and business leaders in 25 countries have been interviewed. Zhang Ruimin was once placed on the 1999 list. The comment of Financial Times upon Zhang Ruimin is as follows: "The history of Haier, which has risen to become China's largest white goods company, and one of the few to establish a brand and a beachhead overseas, has made Mr. Zhang one of China's few authentic business heroes. In many stories, he has been portrayed as kind of Chinese Jack Welch, cutting through entrenched bureaucracies to dominate his market with well-made, competitively priced goods. He and his managers also built up the companies largely through their own efforts, only to be informed late last year that Haier was still a state owned firm." Analysis: 8 Asian business leaders on the list Zhang Ruimin is the only Chinese entrepreneur on the list. Reportedly, of the list of the World's 50 Most Respected Business Leaders, 80% are from Europe and America and only 8 from Asia, including 1 from China. He is Zhang Ruimin. Entrepreneur Forbe The survey of the World's Most Respected Business Leaders was conducted jointly by the Financial Times and PricewaterhouseCoopers, which play such a significant role as the Wall Street Journal. Professor Liu Shu, scholar and director of the China Enterprise Research Center, the Central University of Finance and Economics, is quoted as saying that, the poll conducted by Forbes focuses upon treasure of individuals and companies while the survey of FT is to recognize business performance of the companies throughout the world.
